Turning around boatyard jobs in record time to sail north to the Whitsundays

Watch this sailing video to see how we turn around maintenance boatyard jobs in record time to set sail north again along the EastCoasr of Australia, in an attempt to reach the Whitsunday Islands, just in time for Ana’s bday celebrations. We are ‘Outwiththewind’, Sorin and Ana sailing around the world aboard our sailing yacht Mehalah, an Oyster Mariner 35. We sailed off from London in May 2018 and had been stuck in NZ because of Covid since May 2020. We were chuffed to resume our around the world sailing in May 2022, returning to Fiji, and then sailing west to Australia via Vanuatu and New Caledonia. We are now in the Indian Ocean recalling with most pleasure our Aussie’s land explorations and sailing adventures. After spending a night in the Bundaberg Port Marina we are lifted out at dawn and the race against time is on! We have a long list of maintenance jobs which we are very keen to tackle in the shortest time possible, as marinas and boatyards in Australia are expensive for our budget. The jet washing reveals some past mistakes that we will not repeat. The bottom is to be protected before any cleaning of the hull with chemicals is undertaken. Lesson learned! Working day in day out from dawn to dusk, with help from the ever loved Bundy rum, that Ana purchases on a much needed escape from the boatyard, whilst the Captain stays behind to slave away, we manage to wrap up a long list of boatyard maintenance jobs in record time - just under 7 days. Hurray! We can sail north again with Mehalah in tip toe condition, from top to bottom. Proud as!
