Background to Penyberth- In 1935 the English government decided to establish a bombing school in a place called Penyberth in Pen Llyn. Despite anger from the Welsh, the English government ignored their protests and carried on with the building of the Bombing School. In 1936 a historical farmhouse was destroyed to be replaced by the bombing school - a place where the English army would teach and train soldiers how to destroy and kill. However, three people decided to take action and to do something. The University lecturer Saunders Lewis, the teacher DJ Williams ans the minister Lewis Valentine went to the site of the bombing school and on the 8th of September set fire to it. They then went to the authorities and admitted what they'd done as a symbolic protest. They were sent to Caernarfon Crown Court, North Wales, and the Welsh people in the jury failed to reach a verdict.
