This video is the initial split from a full colony hive also getting ready to have the supers removed to a 6 frame nucleus hive. Steps involve: 1) Locate and isolate the queen on mother colony. 2) Take a frame full of capped brood and a frame full of honey stores. 3) Shake a handful of bees (if keeping on same apiary shake more than you think you will need as most will fly back the the mother hive). 4) Put the new queen with the cage entrance clip still intact between frames - the clip will be broken/removed 3 to 7 days later. 5) Close the Nucleus. 6) Lightly block hive entrance with some grass - remove after 24 hours if bees have not managed to remove it. 7) Release queen on mother colony and close the hive.
