Experiencing homelessness is hard enough. Listen to homeless Calgarians speak about having their means of survival, their sleeping bags and tents thrown away. They struggle to survive the cold. They lack food, water, clothing, and any access to washrooms. They use the washroom outside. Covid has only exasperated and already difficult situation; having still shut down drop in service across the city of Calgary. Individuals express concerns with accessing emergency shelters, they fear for their Mental health. They express they feel de humanized, as “sun-humans”. They express they want any housing opportunity that comes their way. Our be the change outreach team provided them emergency essentials to replace the items that were taken so they don’t freeze to death outside. Along with an opportunity with a platform to speak out. Having a voice can feel empowering. They can’t access emergency shelters. Hear their story as they speak, these are their words. Together we can help make a difference. We can’t do it without you.
