Every year in Assisi, on the Good Friday evening, there will be a spectacular and emotional procession. Locally it is called Cristo Morto or dead Christ. The whole city switch offs most of its lights and puts up small flames along the streets. There are many believers who have formed many brotherhood groups and they come dressed in a very medieval look. They carry a full-size statue of Mother Mary and walk from the Cathedral of San Rufino and enters into Basilica of St. Francis, where she meets her son's dead body. The statue of Mother Mary returns with the statue of dead Jesus. The procession ends back in the Cathedral of San Rufino. There will be also many others from the brotherhoods, who carry big crosses during the whole procession.
