Paddling the CT River: Hartford to Long Island Sound

Documenting a four-day three-night (8/28/23-8/31/23) paddle along the Connecticut River from Hartford to Long Island Sound, and sharing some local knowledge along the way. Since my dog Naia can't hike anymore, I bought an Old Town Discovery 133 on Craigslist for pretty cheap. She’s not the lightest, fastest, or any other superlative canoe, but she’s a great little gateway drug for me, and beamy enough to absorb any wobbling around from a dog that might not always be sitting patiently. I was looking for a paddle that was close to home and easily accessible, something that wouldn’t involve much (or any) portaging, since I was alone and don’t yet have any wheels, and that would be casual enough for me just getting back into paddling and bringing my dog along. I decided on starting to section paddle the Connecticut River. The Connecticut has been near and dear to my heart, as it was my hometown waters since I was 3 years old in southern CT, so this was a no brainer. I have decided that I am going to attempt to section paddle the whole river, biting off manageable pieces a weekend or so at a time. This is the first step of that goal of paddling the length of the CT River with my dog Naia, the final 47 river miles from Charter Oak Landing boat launch in Hartford to Long Island Sound. ‪@OldTownCanoeKayak‬ ‪@connecticutriver‬ ‪@ctdeepvideos‬ #OldTownCanoe #ConnecticutRiverPaddlersTrail #ConnecticutRiver #CTRiver #SectionPaddling
