Dell PowerEdge R820 storage upgrade Part 1 | Converting RAID to HBA IT mode

This video is the first in a series of 3 videos where I will show you how you can upgrade the storage subsystem of the Dell PowerEdge R820. And, since the R820 shares the chassis with the R720, some of these upgrades will also work with the PowerEdge R720. In this first part, I will show you how to convert the hardware RAID storage subsystem in the R820 to an HBA IT mode storage subsystem. Unlike the other 12th gen rackmount PowerEdge servers, the R820 does not have a mini monolithic slot. So, the SAS controller in the R820 is simply a regular PCIe card. I will show you what HBA you can use to replace the factory H710 / H710P RAID controllers to convert to an IT mode SAS system. For those who wish to use ZFS in their R820, for example if you're using Proxmox VE as your hypervisor, you might want to use ZFS.
