The Least Interesting Man in the World | The Life & Times of Joseph Haydn

Of course he wasn't the absolute least interesting man in the world, but when compared with those artists who died young, or were never appreciated, or continually struggled with their inner demons, Franz Joseph Haydn certainly didn't have a lot of drama going on in his life. So come enjoy some music history you might have missed and learn about the man who dominated the classical period. Footnotes: 0:46 - That composer was Johann Georg Reutter, one of the most influential musicians in Vienna at the time 1:01 - Yes, this episode was a lot of fun to record. 1:16 - A rattan cane, mind you, not a wooden one. That type of savagery was reserved for U.S. senators. Still pretty brutal though. 1:21 - The man on the right is Nicola Antonio Porpora, from whom Haydn learned a great deal. 2:25 - That instrument is called a baryton 3:21 - Technically Salieri and Beethoven weren't the ones doing the carrying, but it looks better this way 3:52 - Don't worry, about a hundred years later the greatest composer in France died while Paris was being bombarded by the Germans. I guess that means pretty soon now the Germans will be bombarded by the Austrians and the cycle will be complete. 4:04 - Why am I playing Mozart now? Well, if it's good enough for Haydn's funeral it's good enough for me. Music (in order of appearance): GrimmJohn - Dos Equis Theme Song (Remix) Kevin Macleod - Hidden Past Joseph Haydn - Symphony No. 48 "Maria Theresa" Joseph Haydn - Symphony No. 94 "Surprise" Hidden Citizens - Symphony No. 5 Joseph Haydn - The Creation Joseph Haydn - Emperor's Hymn Mozart - Requiem
