Mikrogeophagus Ramirezi - a beautiful fish, you can't help but love him😍 - electric blue and clasic

Known by many names like Apistogramma ramirezi, Papiliochromis ramirezi, Pseudogeophagus ramirezi, Pseudoapistogramma ramirezi and eventually Microgeophagus ramirezi, the ram cichlid is named after Manuel Ramirez, an early collector and importer of fishes, around 1940. These days the ram cichlid’s official name is Mikrogeophagus Ramirezi, and the etymology of Mikrogeophagus comes from: the Greek word μικρός (mikrós), meaning ‘small’, and the generic name Geophagus, Geo= earth + phagus= eater, so the full name is “small earth eater” ramirezi. The ram cichlid, or butterfly cichlid, is a species of freshwater fish endemic to the Orinoco River, in the savannahs of Venezuela and Colombia in South America. It is a popular aquarium fish, is a member of the Cichlidae family and Geophaginae subfamily. This species should never be added to new or immature aquariums. When conditions deteriorate it easily becomes susceptible to different diseases, like head and lateral line erosion or hole-in-the-head, which initially manifests itself as small pits formed by eroding flesh around the head and lateral line pores. A sick ram can be a source of infection for the aquarium. Mikrogeophagus spp. are benthophagous by nature, normally taking mouthfuls of substrate which are sifted for edible items with the remaining material expelled via the gill openings and mouth, although they will also browse solid surfaces and snatch items directly from the water column. In the aquarium they should be offered a variety of live and frozen fare such as bloodworm, Artemia, Daphnia, grindal worm, etc., supplemented by good quality, sinking dried foods of a suitably small size. Wild fish may initially refuse the latter but normally learn to accept them over time. There are several possible colors and shapes, from selections. You have: Mikrogeophagus Ramirezi "classic", Mikrogeophagus Ramirezi Electric-Blue, Mikrogeophagus Ramirezi Gold, Mikrogeophagus Ramirezi Black, and by shape you have the balloon type and the long fin type. What I love about this fish is that it is very curious and shy, but also very brave, kind of like a cat. Rams are constantly on the lookout for food, and for a place to lay eggs. Once they lay, both the male and the female become fierce defenders of their home. I also love their impressive and vibrant colors and the fact that it’s quite hard to keep them alive for more than a year. This fish is a true challenge for everyone, even if you have a lot of experience in aquariums, it keeps you on your toes.
