RCD is the device that prevents you from the current shock and its works based on detecting the residual current. Residual current is the difference of the current value between phase line and neutral line. When we get electrocuted , current leaks to the earth. When that happens, residual current forms and RCD detects this current and then it disconnects the power to our house. There are many types of RCD's like RCCB and RCBO. The RCBO also prevents us from current shock and detects the overcurrent and short circuits. Working : Inside the RCCB, the phase and neutral wire has been winded like a coil over the soft iron core. When current flows through the coils, it creates a magnetic fields. When current leaks to the earth, changes occur in both magnetic fields and another thing called a relay inside the RCCB that detects this change of magnetic field and disconnects the power conncetion to our house.
