Part 2: GVCN Launch (GVCN Chair Alisdair Smith)

Simon Fraser University's Centre for Dialogue presents the launch of the Greater Vancouver Compassion Network (GVCN), delivered by Alisdair Smith. The GVCN launch opened the feature lecture and "State of the Charter for Compassion Address" by world-renowned author and 2008 TED Prize recipient Karen Armstrong. The lecture and address took place on March 22, 2012. It was hosted by Simon Fraser University's Centre for Dialogue in partnership with the Charter for Compassion, TED Prize, and Greater Vancouver Compassion Network. The Greater Vancouver Compassion Network (www.gvcn.ca) is a non-profit network of institutions, organizations, working groups and individuals committed to furthering compassionate engagement and conduct in our communities. The GVCN has been endorsed by a group of prominent Lower Mainland institutions and individuals that include the Dalai Lama Center for Peace and Education, Free The Children, Fair Trade Vancouver, Kindness Foundation, Christ Church Cathedral, Simon Fraser University's Centre for Dialogue, Canadians for Compassion, InterSpiritual Centre of Vancouver Society, Vancity, and the Vancouver Foundation. The purpose of the GVCN is to energize engagement, mutual learning and collaboration by residents and civic leaders in support of respectful relationships, just economies and sustainable peace. The efforts of the network are nonreligious, non-partisan, and locally relevant.
