Brake rotor screws are especially hard to take off as they are exposed to the elements. This causes them to rust and get really stuck. In this video I show you how you can use a hand impact driver tool to get such screws out with ease. Here I review and show you how to use a Craftsman hand (manual) impact driver. Design of hand impact drivers are very similar. If you are working on a Japanese car or bike it is also important to use the correct impact bit as the Japanese industry have their own screw standards (JIS – Japanese Industrial Standards). You should get a JIS compatible bit as using any other screwdriver or bit (Phillips) can damage and strip the screw head. In such a case that makes it even harder to get the screws out. In this video I was able to get these screws out with no damage to the screw heads. This shows the importance of having the correct bit/tip. If your brake rotor screws are heavily rusted, spray some penetrating oil first and after waiting a while then use the impact driver. If you are the occasional DIYer this hand impact driver is best as there is no wearable part per say. Mechanic shops use powered impact drivers with batteries and of course that degrades with time. The manual impact driver of course is not only for brake disc screws, but any screws that may be hard or difficult to get off. The hammering part of the procedure helps break loose screws that are stuck with rust while putting pressure on the screw making sure the bit does not slip out. At the same time the twisting motion of the head helps turn it. This combination helps the screw break loose. To prevent brake rotor screws from getting rusted you can apply some anti-seize on it. Keep in mind that with anti-seize torque values do change, so would end up tightening the screw or bolt even more following the original torque spec (if the spec was mentioned without any lubricant in mind). The following parts are shown in the video: how to remove brake rotor (disc) screws without damaging them how to use a hand impact driver how to remove JIS screws the importance of selecting the right bit, in this case JIS spec for Japanese car effectiveness of removing brake screws that are already damaged how to remove small stripped screws without a drill how to remove rusted brake rotor screws are brake rotor retaining screws needed? do we need to keep brake rotor screws how to prevent stripping screws on your vehicle or motor bike ホンダのブレーキローターのネジの外し方 does an impact driver remove stripped screws? can a hand impact driver be used on bolts? difference between a manual impact driver and a powered impact driver demonstrating the use of a craftsman manual impact driver on brake rotor screws how to work smarter by using the right tool on rusted screws ---------- Music by Zakhar Valaha from Pixabay - Cinematic ambient emotional ---------- #honda #craftsman #diy #tutorial #autorepair #vehiclecare #hondarepair #screwdriver #JIS #carmaintenance #diycarmaintenance Disclaimer: All content and media on The Wrench Wiz YouTube channel is created and published for informational purposes only.
