Day in the Life of an Oxford PhD Student

No two days for a PhD student are alike, and no two PhD students’ days are ever alike either, but here’s a day in the life of this one as accurately as I could make it. 5:30. Wake up and work on hobby for several hours over breakfast 8:00. Head in to department 8:30. Start lab chores 12:00. Sandwich time! 12:30. Analytical techniques 15:30. Thermodynamic calculations 18:00. Tea in college 19:00. Back home with time to chill 20:30. In bed :) I don’t talk much about my science in here, but if you’re interested here’s what my Martian experiments are trying to figure out:    • How to Make a Martian Lake   Yes, I do get up that early every day, but it was hard going at first and requires you get to bed equally ridiculously early every night (any later than half eight and I’m suffering the next day).
