If you need help getting this panel out of your tape machine, just search YouTube for some tutorial videos, there’s a least one popular one out there that can help you get to this point. So, my function selector switch on my tape machine wouldn’t lock into play. I figured out how it worked and was able to diagnose the problems. First I just poked around and tried to understand and get to know how the mechanics work. The section I tend to focus on in the video is where all the magic happens. You probably won’t need to pay any attention to any other part of the mechanism. You will see that when the function (play, FF, RW) locks into place, it is when the cam on the right gets butted against the square shaft on the left. I have the auto stop bar lifted so that this action can happen. If you do not have this bar lifted, the square shaft on the left changes position just slightly enough for the cam to slip over top of the shaft, and nothing will lock into place. I have my bar tied up with a black twist tie. normally reel tape is what holds this in place. I cleaned all of the old sticky grease out of the mechanism which was part of the problem. Next I oiled (sewing machine oil) the cam shaft really well, as well as other pivot shafts, and greased anything that needed it with super lube synthetic grease. You will really want the piece that the cam shaft is connected to to be able to pivot very easily. I found that the screw that I pan to on the bottom of the mechanism needed adjustment, but only slightly. VERY slightly. It can be a bit finicky, I tightened mine slightly (only about a 45° turn) to allow the piece that the cam shaft sits in to pivot a little farther back to the right in order to allow the cam to fall into the locking position. Also, pay attention to the spring on the cam shaft that hooks onto the cam, it’s very small and can come out of place. Good luck, I’ll be happy to answer any questions!
