London Underground Escalators - We have a brief look around Southwark station on the underground (Tube) network - a station on the late 1990's Jubilee Line Extension (JLE). We first watch a 1996 Stock train depart from the platform and then take a walk around to the escalators having a POV ride up and down from the platforms to the ticket halls until we finish back on the platform. Enjoy! If you do, please like and subscribe. Plenty more like this is on the way... Comment any useful info or possible suggestions for future videos. Thanks! 😎 **The escalators were all installed by O&K (company taken over by Kone shortly after) in 1996 and built in Keighley, England. Some have been modernised slightly by Kone (they have an ongoing contract with TFL for all maintenance of these escalators, something to do with the initial contract) With some, the original smooth, crackly sounding black steps remain. These are very nice! But only one here has its original logos... We can see a little bit of the station's interior here and admire the architecture. You can exit 2 sides here (the upper exit with a set of 3 escalators is the main exit) and the other set leads to near Waterloo East mainline railway station. The lower 3 escalators are in separate tubes, it's a beautiful design. Only 6 of 8 escalators were running since this video was taken on a quiet period. Also incredibly rare - these escalators can only be found in England (They were custom built for London Underground). The types LUL 1 and LUL 2 stand for 'London Underground Limited' 1 and 2 , with the 2 being for the taller ones as they were slightly higher duty in terms of motors.
