This shrine was constructed in the honour of Shiekh Zain-ud-din, who was one of the chief disciples of the renowned Reshi, Shiekh Noor-ud-din. The hills in the Aishmuqam town were once home to Hazrat Zain ud din Wali. Therefore, this place is considered to be sacred by people belonging to different religions. According to popular belief, Hazrat Zain ud din Wali had spent his time preaching about Allah. For this purpose, Hazrat Zain ud Din Wali decided to restrict himself to the cave. Aishmuqam shrine is thronged by thousands of devotees during the annual Urs and Zool festival from all over the world. Baba Zain- ud- din Reshi, more popularly known as Sakhi- Zain- udin of Ashmuqam, is most celebrated Reshi Saint of this land, who lived in 15th century AD. He is one among the founder saints of the Reshi order in kashmir and is remembered for his open handiness and generosity (Sakhawat) for centuries together. People in south Kashmir believe that who so attends the place of reverence never goes empty handed. The symbol of the spiritual legacy and wonder architecture, the shrine of the Reshi has been attracting its devotees from the distant corners of the state all over the year, but the huge rush of his devotees is seen during its urs days which begins from the 16th of Zeth of the local Calendar. The festival is always celebrated with full religious honor and cultural gaiety.
