In this episode, I reviewed the new Etat Libre D’Orange The Ghost In The Shell, composed by Julie Masse. Introduction 0:00 Context 1:05 Etat Libre D'Orange The Ghost In The Shell 7:35 Here's the blotter update... - I remain undecided about this one and I'm going to need more time with it. On the one hand, I can't shake off the feeling that it's just the sort of floral-woody-ambery composition that the mainstream pushes on us endlessly. But on the other, I wonder if I'm being too dismissive of some subtly interesting facets: the way in which the various elements are in tension against each other. To put it somewhat more objectively: the drydown is woody-musky, with an ambery glow hovering in the background. And yet... strange, surreal petals keep popping into view, laden with bubbles of icy water. It's all rather more fascinating than an initial sniff would suggest it has any right to be. Or am I being overly persuaded by the story and marketing? As I said: more time is needed. -- Thanks for watching.
