During this 3rd episode Denji brutally fights against the Bat Devil and today we’ll be explaining why Power let this happen and one of the major differences between this world and the real world. Alright so at the end of the episode 2 Power destroyed the Sea Cucumber devil and like I explained in that previous review, she was 100% not allowed to do that. According to Japanese law, government devil hunters like Power aren’t allowed to kill devils that the civilian devil hunters are already engaged with. In my opinion this is rule is a good way of protecting the wages of civilian devil hunters, since they only get paid based on the devils they capture and kill, so by Power killing the sea cucumber it potentially means that this guy won’t get paid what he was owed. Anyhow episode 3 then begins with Makima explaining that what she did was against the rules, but Denji also gets in trouble for failing to control her when she ran away. There were two interesting things we learnt from this whole scene, the first being about Power’s relationship with Makima. As we saw last week Power usually has an outgoing personality and views herself as superior to both humans and other devils, but when it comes to Makima, she instantly shuts up when told to and was horrified when she thought she might be in trouble. This shows us that unlike Denji, Power is able to acknowledge all of Makima’s red flags and she knows their lives are on the line if they mess up. Secondly in this conversation she throws Denji under the bus by trying to frame him for what happened to the sea cucumber and this was a subtle indication of how she’d be willing to betray him again later in the episode. The manga makes it clear that she’s always had an inherent hatred for humans and so from the beginning Power was always willing to sacrifice him it benefits her in some way. ...later back at devil hunter HQ Makima has a meeting with the higher ups and from this we find out that the Soviet Union is still a thing in this universe. Because Chainsaw Man is set in an alternate version of history, it means that that certain political events never happened, allowing for huge differences in this timeline. Now switching back to Power and Denji, after getting off the bus the two of them arrive at the house where the bat devil is hiding - and as they walk up to it it was kinda funny how she thought Denji was making a bad joke when he said he doesn’t want to “go chainsaws” this time. Like even by the standards of this world, his powers are so ridiculous that an actual devil thought he was just talking nonsense when describing his real abilities. Anyhow as they get closer to the house he starts to realise somethings wrong, since back on the tram, Power told him that she couldn’t get close to the Bat Devil cause if she did then it would use Meowy as a shield. Therefore the fact she was walking this close to the house directly contradicts what she said, leading Denji to finally understand that it was all a lie. As the two of them quickly draw their weapons this split second was the crucial moment, cause if he was able to land a hit then he’d be able to run away and tell Makima but if Power lands the hit then Denji will get fed to the bat devil. Sadly for him he misses by an inch and after getting knocked down by the blood hammer his body gets dragged into the abandoned house. #chainsawman #csm
