Mentoring under Elder Kai turns a lot of things you've come to expect out of mentors upside-down and it's pretty great for it. Of note, since you can't bring Elder Kai with you into mission to help raise his meter instead bring two of Towa. It'll still take a long time, but her Z-soul starts you off with a total of four ki bars which will speed things up nicely. If you do the Frieza mission I did, he'll just evasion super your ultimate if you try to hit him with it right at the start though. And something like Special Beam Cannon that would kill him anyway has an exceptionally hard time hitting him. So it doesn't make it a complete sleep-through.
