Dear Friends, Upon the first hearing, this is a very immature "luvvy-duffy" little tune for the pathetically needy, vulnerable, naive, overly-romantic and maudlin who are bereft of their own inner compass, gravity, anchor and strength. Yeah, I would tend to agree, but not all together. However misread, misconstrued or taken out of context, there is a fundamental line therein we must not ignore: "Love is communication stemming from our innermost hearts". How often is such mutual heart-to-heart communication practised in a balanced two-way street mode within our relationships? Are most relationships predicated upon such healthy honesty and sincerity? How often can one party or both parties be exercising deceptive as well as self-deceptive rationalisations? Are both parties fully aware of and fully accepting of the underlying premise to their relationship? As somewhat schmaltzy as the song may sound, it does provoke some good old basic questions. If I am correct, "眼淚為你流 Ang Lui Wai Nei Lau: Shedding Tears For You" is 陳百強 Danny Chan Bak-keung's very first Cantonese mega hit which had propelled him to rapid super-stardom. He first recorded and released this song in Hong Kong way back in 1979 at the tender age of 20 or 21. His sensitive and sweet angelic voice is apparent throughout the song. All his subsequent recordings were regarded as high quality romantic and melancholic ballads graced with increasingly beautiful artistry which created an unstoppable momentum towards great popularity throughout the next ten years or so alongside, though not as big as mega super stars such as 譚詠麟 Alan Tam, 張國榮 Leslie Cheung and 梅艷芳 Anita Mui. Infinite thanks to that heavenly golden voice of his! Although his range was not wide or powerful, the texture and fibre of his voice had a distinctive and incomparable poetic beauty. I believe that specific quality coupled with his classy good looks had made him a super-star. 1990 was the beginning of his downhill slope. That is another long story I will not cover here. Danny, you returned to God in 1993 at the tender age of thirty-five. Rest in peace. I hope you are composing music and singing in Heaven with God and His angels. As simple as the lyrics may appear, I gave it my characteristic-all throughout this lengthy translation process. NO, it wasn't easy at all. Some lines were damn tricky.
