The livelihoods of these households have been severely impacted by the pandemic as the majority of these villagers are farm labourers and household workers. These families are living in abject poverty. They cannot afford food and basic school supplies to send their children to school. Many survive on one meal a day. The villagers’ stick and mud houses are unstable and unsafe. On many occasions, these houses have been destroyed by elephants at night with inhabitants being killed. Funds raised will be used to build small 2 bedroom houses for each family. The estimated cost to build a house is 15,400 Canadian dollars.
