K.L.Saigal is an institution by himself when it comes to acting and singing in Hindi movies. K.L.Saigal is considered to be the very first superstar of the Hindi film industry. The chapter of Old Hindi Movie Songs is incomplete without Saigal. K.L. Saigal was a born talent and had a training in Hindustani classical music from a very early age. He did many odd jobs in his life before landing up in Calcutta and sign up with the prestigious production house of that era, “ The New Theatres” spear headed by the legendary B.N.Sircar. In his long and prolific career K.L.Saigal has worked in many films. This compilation “Hits Of K.L.Saigal-Vol-4” has songs from some of the super duper hit films of K.L.Saigal such as Chandidas, Tansen, Shahjehan, Bhakt Surdas etc. In 1935, Saigal played the role that would come to define his acting career: that of the drunken title character in Devdas, based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's novel of the same name and directed by P.C. Barua. The songs sung by K.L.Saigal in the film Devdas (1935), “Balam Aaye Baso Moray Man Mein” and “Dukh Ke Ab Din Beetat Naahi”, became raging hits throughout the country. K.L.Saigal's association with the New Theatre productions later on was described as the Golden Era of Old Hindi Movies. In 1941 K.L.Saigal moved to Bombay. He eventually acted sang in a number of successful films. Bhakt Surdas (1942) and Tansen (1943) were hits during this period. The latter film is still remembered for Saigal's performance of the song Diya Jalao in Raga Deepak. Songs from both these films are compiled in this album. “Kahe Guman Kare” is another beautiful track that is compiled here from the hit film “Tansen”. All of K.L.Saigal's songs were released under the label of Hindusthan Record and this bonding never faltered.
