Naruto x Hinata | Everytime We Touch | AMV -「Anime MV」

What is love? Is all love the same? What separates one’s love for Cajun Chicken Littles from one’s love for their romantic partner? Philosophers as early as Ancient Greece have grappled with this distinction, defining love with such terms as storge (familial), philia (brotherly), eros (sexual), and agape (unconditional). In modern times, the American psychologist Robert Sternberg proposed that love of all types vary along three dimensions: intimacy, passion, and commitment (Sternberg, 1986). However, it is clear that love is more than just an emotion. Love is a multidimensional biological process that shapes how we approach relationships with each other and ourselves. Love has inspired countless works of art, and the story of Naruto Uzumaki and Hinata Hyūga is but one of these examples. As a child, Naruto witnessed the gruesome treatment of a small white-eyed girl by three towering bullies. Although vastly outnumbered and diminutive in size, Naruto came to defend the girl long enough for her guardian to appear. That white-eyed girl was none other than Hinata Hyūga, and Naruto’s act of selfless bravery would tattoo an impression on her heart worth a lifetime. The two would not reunite until their Academy days, during which Hinata struggled to even glance at her childhood crush. Nevertheless, she continued to reach out, helping Naruto cheat during a test, offering him ointment for his wounds, and visiting him at the hospital after battle. The hints were there all along, however, Naruto wouldn’t come to understand her feelings until she, like Naruto did so many years ago, risked her life to protect him. Years later, after the conclusion of the Fourth Shinobi World War, Naruto would find that he viewed Hinata much like he viewed ramen: he loved her. However, Hinata was more than just ramen, she was Hinata. Unlike ramen, Hinata could stand beside him and support him emotionally. As such, once kidnapped by Toneri Ōtsutsuki, he stormed this godlike figure’s castle, and rescued her so he could properly convey his feelings. With their emotions for each other fully manifested, the two would soon marry and begin a new life together as husband and wife. Sternberg, R. J. (1986). A triangular theory of love. Psychological Review, 93(2), 119.
