Perfect Dark — Perfect Agent Playthrough Mission 1 (Real N64 Hardware)

Here it is, the 20th Anniversary of one of my all-time favorite games - Perfect Dark. There's so much good I can talk about this game; I could spend hours writing about how great it is. This is one of the few games in the industry that lives up to the hype, even after over two decades. I didn't always have this game on the Nintendo 64, and I've played the trial version of the XBLA re-release quite a number of times before I eventually bought the full game back on Christmas in 2014. I didn't get to buy the N64 version until two years later. I didn't pay much mind to the complaints about the game "being a slideshow" (a crack at the game's framerate, which isn't even that bad, most of the time) and that it didn't have dual-analog controls (it did; you just needed another controller to do it). Those complaints are nothing but hyperbole, and the controls and performance don't take that long to get used to. I also wanted a physical copy of the game and wanted to experience how N64 FPS games felt when playing them. "Defection" is such a good setup to the game's atmosphere. The cityscape, flying cars, and the music really sets Perfect Dark apart from its predecessor. Rare really went wild with the visuals. The framerate in this mission does leave somewhat of a sour first impression, but it is not indicative to how the game runs throughout the Campaign; it gets better in the second mission. Just as in GoldenEye 007, go to the Control Settings and change the god-awful default 1.1 control scheme to 1.2, and turn off both "Look Ahead" and "Reverse Pitch". I'm using the standard gray OEM controller for the system.
