“北, 도 넘은 깡패 국가”…말레이-북한 격한 대립 Malaysia's probe into the assassination of Kim Jong-nam has implicated several North Koreans... and possibly the regime itself. Pyongyang's angry denunciations of the Malaysian authorities over their findings... have got the two countries' once-friendly relations turning sour. Connie Kim. Investigations into the killing of Kim Jong-nam clearly show that North Korea may be behind it. But with Pyongyang continuing to criticize Kuala Lumpur and deny the investigation results, North Korea's ties with Malaysia are at risk of collapse. "We cannot trust the investigation by the Malaysian police even though its result would be obtained. It only increases the doubt that there could be someone else's hand behind the investigation." Malaysia's defense minister on Thursday said the North Korean ambassador breached diplomatic norms and was quoted as saying that Kang Chol crossed the line. According to Reuters, a senior Malaysian government official said Kang's comment has angered Malaysia and the government is preparing a response. This response, said another official, could mean expelling the North Korean envoy or closing Malaysia's embassy in Pyongyang. Other options reportedly under consideration by Malaysia include ending visa-free travel for North Koreans. If worse comes to worst, and North Korea's criticism continues, Malaysia could cut all diplomatic and trade ties with Pyongyang -- formal relations that date back to 1973. Malaysia has had relatively good diplomatic and economic ties with North Korea, allowing direct air connections between the two countries and easy travel regulations. But now, one of the few remaining friendly countries could soon turn its back on the North,... further isolating the reclusive regime. Connie Kim, Arirang News.
