Nestled in the southwestern corner of the park, amidst a rugged terrain of rolling hills and mountains, Berg-en-dal Rest Camp boasts a stunning location. Established in 1984, it stands as one of the newer camps within the Greater Kruger National Park. Surrounded by dried-up river beds and towering trees that line the rivers' edges, the camp presents a picturesque scene. Despite occasional flooding, these rivers seldom fill up completely. The tall trees provide ideal habitat for leopards, which have been known to inhabit the area over the years. Notably, the entire perimeter of Berg-en-dal, including the trees, is enclosed by fencing to deter leopards from entering the camp. Berg-en-dal Rest Camp's GPS coordinates are -25.42S, 31.4512E. Additionally, the camp boasts a satellite location called Malelane, just 10 kilometers away, which we've also covered in another article. Returning to Berg-en-dal, it stands merely 12 kilometers from the nearest gate, Malelane. This beautifully preserved camp allows vegetation and plant life to flourish as nature intended. Unique in its setting among mountains, it provides a habitat for rare species of birds, plants, and antelope. Red Bushwillow and Magic Guarri are among the prevalent trees, while the sweet grass attracts various grazers. Keep a keen eye out for Mountain Reedbuck, Grey Rhebok, and even Oribi in the area! Berg-en-dal features a restaurant and a well-stocked shop, ensuring visitors have access to all necessities during their stay. This video is a complete walk through of Berg-en-dal Rest Camp, including the amazing Rhino Museum in the reception area. It also shows the accommodation and us driving and walking through the camp. We tried to cover everything here. In the background of this video we have added bird call sounds that can be heard in Berg-en-dal Rest Camp. It is in a prime game viewing and bird watching area. It is truly a beautiful camp, and is quite wild and teeming with birdlife and insects, especially around all the beautiful aloes, where the many species of Sunbirds and other can be seen.
