Here’s my bass cover of Stevie Wonder’s classic hit "Sir Duke," a song that captures the joy and celebration of music itself. For this cover, I aimed to stay true to the spirit of the original, but with a more grounded sound, playing the bass in my own style while keeping most of the original role intact. One of the trickiest parts is the unison riff between the verses and the chorus, which can seem intimidating. I approached it by splitting the riff into four parts and practicing each section separately. This method helped me focus on the groove and feel, making the section flow naturally without overwhelming the bassline. The choruses were especially fun to play, as I built a more structured role, repeating a solid groove with occasional reversed arpeggios to add depth and support the rhythm. Playing along with Stevie’s magical lead vocals, the tight drumming, and the muted electric guitar was a pleasure throughout.
