Buy the Round Vents on our website! www.reptiledge.com Today We are showing you how to make a $25.00 Vertical Terrarium FOLLOW US IN THESE PLACES FOR UPDATES Twitter - / reptiledge Facebook - / reptiledge Instagram - / reptile_edge Google Plus - http://google.com/+Reptiledge The Material I used to build this terrarium was... a 10 gallon tank, a small piece of 3/16 Acrylic, 2 small piece of 1/4 Sintra, Hinges, screws, Twist Tabs, A Lock, and 3 2" Round Vents. My total cost for this project 26.82 however, if you choose to drill holes for ventilation and provide a pull tab instead of a lock you will save yourself $5 and your total cost will be 21.82. Another tip to save on cost is to visit your plastic supplier and purchase scrap pieces or visit a sign shop and see if they have any scrap they can give you. To start this project, take measurements of the opening of your 10 gallon tank. each brand varies in size but this particular one the opening is 9.5 inches by 19.5 inches. Next you need to cut your pieces to size, to save on cost the top and bottom of this lid is made of sintra and i have cut them to 9.5 inches by 3 inches each. Place your pieces on your terrarium and measure the opening. This is an important step as you will and to leave a 1/16 gap on each side of the door to allow the acrylic to expand and contract as well as to allow you to align your door. This particular piece was cut to 9.5 inches to 13 and 3/16" inches. Now is a good time to mark and drill your lock if youre using one, make sure to either use a spade bit or a step bit so you do not crack your acrylic. Once you've confirmed everything fits, its time to silicone down the top and bottom. Make sure you use a healthy amount of Silicone and you use a silicone that specifically says it sticks to plastic. Dont worry about extra silicone, it comes off easily after it dries. Glue the lip of the aquarium as well as the inside edge to make it water tight. after you have siliconed it, use a heavy book to hold it in place for 24 hours to cure. now we need to think of ventilation. I used 3 2" round vents for this enclosure, however, to save a few dollars you can just drill a bunch of holes. Make sure you measure twice and drill once to make sure the screens are even. Then insert your screen and attach your twist tabs and locking mechanism. The last step is to clean youre enclosure and remove the protective film on the door. And there you have it, how to make a $25 arboreal terrarium.
