How to Form and Pour DIY CONCRETE COUNTERTOPS in Place

Online Classes: https://decorativeconcreteschool.com In today's video, Im going to show you how we poured cast in place concrete countertops in the kitchen at our shop. We had some down time a few weeks ago during the pandemic, so we used whatever materials we could find in our shop and made these concrete countertops. First, we built forms on top of the existing cabinets. The cabinets are old, so we had to make some modifications to them and then we added a layer of plywood across the top. Finally, we used pvc 1x4 boards to form the edges of the countertop. We already had some polymer additive and glass scrim in the shop, so all we had to do was find some portland cement and sand at our local supplier. We used our new Collomix XM2-650 to mix 100 lb. batches of concrete at at time. We placed the concrete in the forms by hand and worked a sheet of glass scrim into the mix. Collomix XM2 Mixer: http://dcva.us/xm2 After we poured the concrete, we floated it with a bull float and then troweled it with a steel trowel to get a rustic hard troweled surface. We came back after about a week and lightly sanded the concrete and applied a penetrating sealer.
