Most are found in Northwestern Europe – especially in Britain, Ireland, and Brittany – and typically date from the Late Neolithic and Early Bronze Age, with most being built from 3000 BC. The only Stone Circle found in South Asia is luckily in Swabi, Pakistan. Stone Circles are still a mystery in archeology as no clear statement can be made regarding their purpose. Research shows these are likely to be places of ceremony, worship burial grounds, social gathering places or some astronomical related areas. Most sites do not contain evidence of human dwelling, suggesting that stone circles were constructed for ceremonies. Asota Sharif Stone Circle located in district Swabi of KPK is a must visit site for archeology lovers. The erected large stones of granite in round circle surely give glimpse of an era of mystery. The circle is not complete, some stones must have been fallen in past centuries.
