Herbert Howells: Requiem

A recent full performance of Herbert Howells' deeply profound and personal "Requiem", incorporating text from both the Requiem text 'Requiem Aeternam', 'Salvator Mundi' Psalms 23 & 121 and ‘Audi vocem’ ('I Heard a Voice from Heaven'). Modelled on a similar work by Walford-Davies, due to many similarities, the Requiem was initially thought to be a first draft of Howell's later work: "Hymnus Paradisi", composed soon after his son, Michael Howells’ death in 1935. However it was more recently revealed that the piece was composed in 1932, some three years before Michael died.
