How Roland Barthes Informs Musicians and Composers
In this video I am tackling Roland Barthes' 1967 essay, "The Death of the Author". Basically, says that an author (or composer, performer, etc.) is a compiler and transcriber, but the reader (or viewer, listener) is the interpreter of the text or composite work. Yes, it sounds pretty ponderous, but it does open up many new possibilities. It means that genres are no longer fixed but have fluid boundaries. Indeed, there are no longer boundaries apart from the limits of your imagination!
