The New Jersey Wind Works Coalition presents: Offshore Wind Transmission and the Grid

Our transition to clean energy means that two important things need to happen. First, we need to power up clean, renewable energy sources, which will include offshore wind. Second, we need to make sure our power grid can deliver that additional energy to our homes and businesses. This presentation tells the story of how the decisions we make today will affect the performance of our future onshore to offshore grid in a world powered by renewables. This presentation will be led by Eric Hines, Ph.D., P.E. Dr. Hines directs the offshore wind energy graduate program at Tufts University, where he is a Professor of the Practice and the Kentaro Tsutsumi Faculty Fellow in civil and environmental engineering. Dr. Hines has over 25 years of experience engineering innovative infrastructure. Major offshore wind related projects include: the Wind Technology Testing Center in Charlestown, MA; the New Bedford Marine Commerce Terminal; the Partnership for Offshore Wind Energy Research (POWER-US); Digital Twinning the Block Island Wind Farm; and Transmission Expansion Planning for U.S. Offshore Wind. He works at the technology/policy interface to develop systems-level design concepts and has received numerous awards for his work in industry-driven research. He studied engineering and public policy as an undergraduate at Princeton University and as a Fulbright Fellow in Germany. He holds an M.S. in applied mechanics and a Ph.D. in structural engineering from the University of California, San Diego.
