The DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro | Is this now the one to beat?!

Check out Fanboys, the NEW Channel with my brother Josh: ‪@Fanboystech‬    / @fanboystech   DJI just dropped the Next Action camera and it not just the 5. This is the new Action 5 PRO. Very exciting I know but let's have a look at what that pro next to that name really means. At first glace everything looks pretty similar. But if you dig a little deeper you’ll see that DJI has taken what was my favorite action camera from last year, the Action 4 and pretty much upgraded everything about it! Ah and added a few new things. New Sensor New Chip New Screens More Battery New WIFI New Sensors Better Audio More Dynamic range Night modes. Internal Storage This thing is shaping up to be something pretty special. When I first saw the rumors of this camera, admittedly I was a little disappointed, I was, like you probably, hoping for a one inch sensor. Let's have a look at what's new. If you have a look at 5 Pro vs The 4 yes it looks pretty similar but you'll notice bigger buttons, updated smoother easier to use doors and the new bigger brighter dual touch screen HLG HDR OLED screens. As soon as you turn these on it's so striking. It now goes to 2.5in in the back and they look great. Being the first OLED touch screens in an action camera does a few things. It's bright, easily viewable outside, it's high contrast, so you can more accurately preview HDR footage and it saves battery. With OLED Blacks are black because the are actually turning off those pixels. This unlocks some pretty cool stuff like always on displays and information when shooting time lapses or long videos. The Dynamic range improvement is immediately noticeable and now that I have started dialing in my log workflow it’s even better. The 10 bit color and D-log profiles look great our of the box and give you a lot of options when you go to grade your footage. I really liked the true to life feel of the action 4’s image and now with the extra dynamic range and colour management I think like this even more. I also love how crispy the 4k 120 looks which you can now shoot in the full 4:3 aspect ratio. We can now also shoot 40mp photos and take 4k screen grabs just like we can in the GP. The photos still arnt the most amazing thing you can take compared to using you phone or a mirrorless camera but at least they are higher mp. The Better low light performance is great. I’ll talk about the specific low light mode in a sec, but where I have been noticing it the most is the last few weeks in my testing because the weather has been so bad and just how much better not only the image holds up in the terrible light but also the stabilization. DJI has also upgraded the Chip inside the Action 5 Pro. It’s now a 4nm chip. Unlocking better computational performance with less power consumption. It does a few cool things like subject tracking and AI Noise reduction and because it’s paired with the bigger 1950mah battery the battery life is wild. DJI quotes 4hrs of battery life continuously shooting at 1080p and on average a 50% increase overall over the already pretty awesome Action 4 which in use is pretty accurate. I hate SD cards. As you can imagine I have quite a few for testing these cameras and I didn't even know that internal storage is something i wanted till i got this camera. It’s faster more reliable, i can’t misplace it and I’m never going to have that issue where I plan a whole day of shooting in forget to bring a Card. The only thing I wish it had though was back up shooting. It would be great to be able to save the same video to the internal storage and the SD card for when you are shooting those important clips and need to make sure you don't loose any footage. I think this is something that they could add in a software update later though. I know I’m starting to sound a bit like a a shill for this thing, because to be honest I'm struggling to find stuff that i don't like about this Camera. I really had to scrap the barrel here but these are some things that I think could either be improved in the next Action Camera or Even Added in a software update. Overall its easy to say that I'm pretty impressed by this thing. DJI took an already awesome little camera, my favorite little camera, and made it even better. I love that DJI is taking this corner of the market so seriously and pushing GoPro to really get their act together and try a bit harder. This camera is quick, and easy to use, it captures fantastic true to life high quality video, it’s reliable and has great battery life. Honestly it’s just so easy to recommend.
