It's EXTRAORDINARY!! So, let's stand up for it! Action List: How You Can Help the Salish Sea 1. Learn About Your Local Area: Research the history of your town or city, focusing on the indigenous land it was built on. Suggested resource: nativelands.ca 2. Leave No Trace: Spend time outdoors and practice the principles of Leave No Trace (LNT.org) 3. Reduce Car Use: when available, opt for public transit, ride-sharing, biking, or walking for errands. 4. Participate in Community Events: Volunteer for beach cleanups, tree planting, and other conservation activities. Join community scientific research projects that monitor the health of the Salish Sea, such as water quality testing and wildlife or habitat surveys. 5. Share Your Concerns for the Salish Sea: let elected officials know that the Salish Sea is important to you. Share information about policies that are needed to protect the Salish Sea. Vote. 6. Save Energy: purchase only energy-efficient appliances, explore solar panels, heat pumps for house or condo. Encourage landlords and homeowners associations to do same. 7. Promote Sustainability in Business: Showcase your sustainable practices to customers and prioritize buying local to reduce shipping needs while supporting your community. 8. Conserve Water: Implement water-saving practices at home, such as fixing leaks, using low-flow fixtures, and being mindful of water usage in daily activities. 9. Local Food: Purchase seafood and produce from local, sustainable sources as much as possible. 10. Learn: Attend workshops, lectures, and community meetings focused on the Salish Sea. Share this knowledge with friends and family to raise awareness. 11. Create Wildlife Habitats: Build birdhouses, bat boxes, or insect hotels to provide safe habitats for local wildlife, contributing to biodiversity. 12. Reuse, Repurpose, Repair, Recycle: Reuse items as much as possible and participate in local recycling programs. 13.
