Kampong Lorong Buangkok. The Last Village in Singapore.

Kampong Lorong Buangkok in Hougang, is the last traditional village left in Singapore, build since 1956 and consisting of what’s left of the remaining 28 families, both Chinese and Malays, still living in zinc or wooded houses, surrounded by what’s left of once forested area. It is situated right beside a canal that drains into the nearby Sungei Punggol. This kind of housing were very prevailing then, across the entire island before the 1970s, until government build HDBs took over, which now surrounds the village nearby, a sharp contrast of reversal village vs HDB urban housing. A partially hidden signboard along Lorong Buangkok (road) lead the paths inside the village and one is immediately transformed to a very difference Urban Singapore of today. This village was also the filming site for various local dramas and documentary. The land area used to be 21,460 m2 but has shrunken in size to 12,248.1 m2. To get a taste of lost in time transformation of the 1950s/60s, this is a good place to come over for a visit of nostalgia.
