Data Fest 2024: Empowering decisions with Data

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics ( #PBS ) successfully hosted #DataFest2024 in Islamabad, an event that brought together a diverse array of experts, researchers, and data enthusiasts dedicated to exploring the trans-formative power of data in modern society. This significant gathering highlighted the vital role of data in informed decision-making, innovation, and societal progress. The event fostered collaboration and knowledge sharing, inspiring new solutions to tackle challenges and boost Pakistan's economic growth. The main strategic partners for #DataFest-2024 are #UNICEF, #UNFPA, the #WorldBank, #ILO, #UNHCR, #FAO, #ADB. These organizations bring extensive expertise in global development, public health, and education. The concluding ceremony was organized on 22nd October 2024 in the evening. The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics’ Data Festival focused on five pivotal themes addressing Pakistan's critical issues, showcased the importance of leveraging data for meaningful change. By emphasizing reliable and transparent data, DataFest themes demonstrated its potential to drive informed decision-making and national progress. The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics focus on capacity building and collaborative efforts is essential for advancing these themes, fostering a data-driven environment that supports Pakistan's development. On 21st October 2024, PBS organized 2 panel discussions on 1st day and 4 panel discussion on 2nd day of the event wherein prominent International and National experts representing various organization participated for sharing their vision to tackle the challenges being faced in the thematic areas. The festival featured vibrant exhibitions and stalls showcasing cutting-edge data solutions, innovative technologies. Pakistan's leading data producers and users, including Provincial Bureau of Statistics, #NADRA, Provincial IT Boards, Academia, #UN Organizations and the Private Enterprise converged to showcase data's transformative power. They emphasized data integration's significance for transparency, informed decision-making, ensuring accuracy and public trust in systems supporting key national policies. This collaborative effort underscored capacity building and cross-sectoral collaboration as vital for effective data utilization. This drew overwhelming student participation, with young enthusiasts eagerly volunteering and engaging in the event, highlighting their eagerness to uncover the potential of data. Beside these interactive activities and six panel discussions around 60 presentations by keynote speakers and renowned experts belongs to diverse field were also delivered on variety of topics on workshop stations. Students from academia also participated in the data fest and presented their projects. Project Competition between universities also held and Air University Islamabad secured 1st Position, second position secured Air University Kamra and 3rd by Arid #AgricultureUniversityRawalpindi. Mr. Muhammad Sarwar Gondal, (ستارہ امتیاز), Member SS/RM & Spokes Person PBS, highlighted the importance of continuing to build on the connections and knowledge gained during the event. The collaborative spirit demonstrated at DataFest-2024 was a key factor in making the event both memorable and productive, paving the way for future innovations in data-driven solutions. He extended his heartfelt thanks to all key note speakers, presenter, panelist, moderators, participants and stakeholders for their contributions to the success of the event. In closing remarks, Dr. Naeem-uz-Zafar, (ستارہ امتیاز) Chief Statistician, PBS, expressed sincere gratitude to all participants for their active involvement and contributions throughout the two-day event. The event successfully brought together experts and enthusiasts for a journey of learning, collaboration, and innovation in the field of data science. The Chief Statistician recognized the passion and dedication of DataFest ambassadors, volunteers and faculty members from various universities who actively contributed to the event. He expressed gratitude for attendee’s engagement, highlighting the productive discussions and meaningful connections that will motivate data-driven progress. He also thanked all international delegations visiting Pakistan from Nepal, Oman, Thailand and Australia as well as those who joins online experts from SESRIC, Azerbijan, Uzbekistan and Iran for their participation.
