Adding Reflection to the Youth Sport Journey

Abby Keenan, MS, CMPC, a mental performance coach at Intrepid Performance Consulting, LLC identifies how we can engage youth athletes in reflection as part of their performance experience. Reflection is a tool used to help us reach goals, enhance sport performance, and increase well-being. Critically reflecting on experiences helps to create a shift toward process-oriented thinking, which allows us to take ownership of our behaviors and our experiences. Keenan suggests that we practice this skill by committing to the process of reflecting, journaling after our experience, and sharing our reflections with others.
