Train Cab Ride NL / 200kph on ICNG / Rotterdam - Schiphol - Amsterdam / ICNG / August 2024

Hi everyone! Welcome on board a brand new ride. In the past few weeks I had a lot of comments requesting another HSL ride. Well here it is! A bit back in time this week because of my holiday that has just passed. The recording was done on the 16th of August 2024. Enjoy the ride! 0:00 Rotterdam Centraal We start the ride in Rotterdam. Special thanks to Instagrammer Treinassistent_Nick for the video on departure. We depart perfectly on time from Rotterdam. Just after departure you can see the tracks on the left towards Schiedam being under construction. After fall this year they are planned to be back in business if not delayed due to staff shortages. 3:19 Entering High Speed Line (HSL) Time to enter the High Speed Line. Or the Half Speed Line as we like to call it these days. More about that later. We change from the ATB system to ERTMS. The digital safety system for European trains. No light signals needed anymore. All the maximum speeds are displayed in the cabin. 4:34 Voltage Change-over 1.5kV to 25kV On the HSL the voltage is set to 25.000V AC. To change from 1500V DC to this voltage we must pass a change-over. This a part with 400 meters of grounded wires to separate the two sections from each other. The length of the change-over is the maximum length of trains on the HSL. So they won't be able to connect the two voltages as well. 6:57 Bergschenhoek This part of the HSL is deepened because is runs right through a living area. 7:20 SOS-button pusher One of the SOS-buttons in ICNG is located on a clumsy place. Because of that passenger are tend to press it by accident when a train is busy. This happens twice on this ride. The driver gets to see the location on the camera and gets a speaking connection. In this case I already saw nothing was going on. 8:44 Neutral Section / Phaselock On each HSL section there's a phaselock. This separates to phases from each other to prevent too many trains running under one phase. Draining all the power from the wires. 10:48 Testing Trains Horns 11:11 Groene Harttunnel Entering the tunnel with minus 2 minutes on the clock. We need that time for the temporary speed limits. 13:12 Temporary Speed Limit 80km/h Here we go. Welcome to the temporary speed section. A total of 15 kilometers of faulty tracks. Errors were made during the build of the HSL on this section. All viaducts will need extra support before the speed can be set to the maximum again. This will take at least until 2026. :( A few weeks after this video NS alternated the train schedule as well. Passenger were missing connections due to the delays. Now with the alternative train schedule passengers will get better travel advise again. The journey still takes a few minutes longer though. 17:23 Hoogmade Switches 18:33 Short Time No Temporary Speed Limit The only part where we can speed up a little. And because the train schedule was not changed at this day we needed it. Speeding up and slowing down quickly after that. 21:31 Temporary Speed Limit 120km/h Also a part with a speed limit of 120km/h. 22:15 Nieuw Vennep 23:03 HSL Maintenance Yard 23:13 Temporary Speed Limit 80km/h Back to 80km/h again. Always fun with a voltage change-over coming up... 23:46 Voltage Change-over 25kV to 1.5kV Almost time to leave the Half Speed Line. Therefor we must change back to the 1500V DC powerline through a 400 meter section of grounded wires. Pantographs down. 24:29 Hoofddorp Opstel 25:06 Leaving Half Speed Line Back from ERTMS to ATB. ATB does show speeds to the driver. But only 40, 60, 80, 130 and 140km/h are available. ATB is just a help for the driver. Not an official safety system like ERTMS. 25:27 (Hoofddorp) Midden 26:35 Camera Checkup + Schiphol Tunnel Smile to the camera's! 28:06 Schiphol Airport A two minute delay on arrival due to the temporary speed limits. If we would've been driving with TRAXX (max 160km/h) this would've been a 5 minute delay. 33:42 Riekerpolder Connection Enjoy all the metro stations on the right of our route. 36:41 Amsterdam Lelylaan 38:19 Amsterdam Erasmusgracht 39:12 Amsterdam Sloterdijk 41:22 Amsterdam Transformatorweg Connection Another ICNG coming up in the other direction! :) 42:44 Singelgrachtbrug 43:39 Westelijk Eiland + Amsterdam Centraal I hope you enjoyed the ride. Please let me know what you think of it in het comments. Don't forget to hit the like buttons and of course share the video with your friends! :D Have a good weekend! Cheers!
