The best thing you can do is stop buying store bought salad dressings and start making your own. Store bought salad dressings are filled with fattening ingredients such as: High fructose corn syrup (also known as glucose-fructose) Soybean oil and refined canola oil. Even if the front of the package says, “Made with Olive Oil”, always look at the back to ensure it is the main oil used. Watch out for this often deceptive marketing practice. Often times the ingredients label will reveal the primary ingredients are soybean oil or canola oil. The olive oil is often a secondary ingredient found in very small amounts. And finally, I don’t buy pre-packaged dressing because it is so easy to make your own healthy salad dressing recipe. I’d be willing to bet a good portion of the salad dressings in your fridge contain this ingredient: Soybean oil If you see soybean oil listed in your salad dressing ingredients, dump it out right now, but keep the bottle. That’s right, we’re going to use this bottle to make a homemade healthy salad dressing that will help you on your weight loss journey. Why soybean oil is bad for you? Well, soybean oil is a highly refined and genetically modified oil. The refining process that soybean (and canola oil) go through, makes the polyunsaturated portion of these oils very oxidative and highly inflammatory in the body. The ratio of omega-6s in soybean oil is also way to high and adds to the already imbalanced omega-6 to omega-3 ratio. You see it as one of the first ingredients in many unhealthy salad dressings because it is so cheap. This is one of the main reasons why soybean oil is used in so many store bought salad dressings. If your goal is weight loss, stop consuming salad dressings that contain soybean oil. A lot of store bought salad dressings also contain many different forms of hidden sugars and other chemicals you can’t even pronounce. Healthy Salad Dressing Recipe INGREDIENTS 1/2 cup Apple cider vinegar 1/2 cup Balsamic vinegar 1/4 cup Extra virgin olive oil 1/4 cup Udo's Oil 1 tsp Maple syrup 1/2 tso Black Pepper 1/2 tsp Onion powder 1/2 tsp Garlic powder INSTRUCTIONS 1. Add all the ingredients to an empty salad dressing container. The size of the container that I used is 475 ml. 2. Fill up the container with all the ingredients and shake to blend. 3. Enjoy.
