The units of such fundamental quantities are called base units, combinations of them being called derived units. The system in which length, mass and time is adopted as the basic quantities, and from which the units of other quantities are derived, is called the absolute system of units. In the SI system of units the first three fundamental dimensions are mass, length and time. The units used to measure these dimensions (and their abbreviations) are defined to be the kilogram (kg), the meter (m) and the second (s).Dimensional analysis is the analysis of the relationships between different physical quantities by identifying their base quantities (such as length, mass, time, and electric charge) and units of measure. All instruments have a smallest increment that can be detected. This smallest increment is called the least- count of the instrument. A meter stick has markings every millimeter (0.001 meter) so its least-count is 0.001 meter. In this video we will cover:- 1.Introduction to physical and non-physical quantities. 2.What are Base units? 3.What are derived units? 4.What do we mean by SI units? 5.How many base units are there? 6.How to measure Length? 7.What is Parallax method? 8.The moon is observed from two diametrically opposite points A and B on Earth. The angle θ subtended at the moon by the two directions of observation is 1o 54′. Given the diameter of the Earth to be about 1.276 × 107 m, compute the distance of the moon from the Earth. 9.How to calculate range of length? 10.How to measure mass? 11. What is range of mass? 12.How to measure Time? 13.Accuracy & Precision in instruments. 14.Explain Errors? 15.Different types of errors. 16.What are systematic errors? 17.How to minimize systematic errors? 18.What are random errors? 19.Define Least Count Errors? 20.What are absolute errors? 21.What are relative errors? 22.What are percentage errors? 23. In successive measurements, the readings turn out to be 2.63 s, 2.56 s, 2.42 s, 2.71s and 2.80 s. Calculate the absolute errors, relative error or percentage error. 24.Combining of Errors. 25.Find the relative error in g, T=2π sqrt(L/g) 26.What are significant figures? 27.Rules defining Significant Figures. 28.Change of units doesn't change Significant figures. 29.Ambiguities in Significant Figures. 30.How to write number in scientific notation? 31.Rules for arithmetic operations in Significant Figures. 32.Rounding off Uncertain digits. 33.Calculate the surface area of a cube where side measures 7.203m. 34.Dimensions of physical quantities. 35.Dimensions of Physical World. 36.How do we write Dimensional Formula? 37.How to write Dimensional Equations? 38.Applications of Dimensional Analysis. 39.Conclusion of Dimensional Analysis. 40.Dimensional & Non-Dimensional constants.
