Metal Slug 5 - All Bosses (No Damage)

Mostly done on Lv.8. I have no idea how to do Avatar of Evil on Lv.8, so I settled for a far less impressive Lv.1. I might look into the Lv.4 version of his fight, however. And yeah, if it wasn't obvious, the only reason I've been able to get to some of these guys on Lv.8 is using the magic of savestates. I am not good enough to be able to get to some of those unscathed on Lv.8, so I think it's better to be honest about it. Well, let's get on with the bosses: Black Hound: This is a secret midboss! It's pretty basic if you ask me, but it's a fun fight nonetheless and doesn't stand out as unfair or anything. If you don't like it, you can just skip it, after all. Metal Rear: On Lv.8, this guy is way more of a threat than Lv.1 or Lv.4, but he's still pretty easy. Just make sure to learn his aimed attacks and you're set. Shooting Ray: Oh this guy is a pain. He's really easy on Lv.1 and not too bad on Lv.4, but similarly to quite a few other bosses, he has an absurd amount of HP on Lv.8 and his attacks really could have been more fair. The aimed orbs attack is very consistent and I don't have anything to say about it, and the orb spam is... useful, since it allows you to get Heavy Machinegun repeadetly. Most importantly, if you don't care about taking damage, this is the only fight aside from Metal Rear you can just cheese with the vehicle. But if you do care about taking damage? That small orb barrage. I have NO idea how it works and most of the time the plane doesn't even survive the first one since it creates absurdly strict patterns so I have to destroy the plane to dodge it, but in general this attack seem to just be semi-random. That's not good, because this boss takes quite a while to kill. Screamer: Now this is what I am talking about! This guy also quite some HP, but he's fair all around and requires some good dodging to beat. I kept the bombs until later on because the more HP you take off, the more aggressive it starts to get with the middle-missile attack, and that's the hardest one to dodge. Speaking of, one of the missiles can drop a Double Heavy Machinegun, I think! I saw it drop a few times but didn't manage to get it in the run. Sand Marine: Similarly, you really want to keep the bombs for later. The attacks are mostly all fine to dodge even on Lv.8, but you REALLY want to have enough bombs to kill it once it gets angry. The aggressive version of the shot barrage is really hard to dodge on higher difficulty levels and as you can see in the run, even if you're careful, you're gonna need to do some tough dodges to survive. At least to my knowledge, maybe there's a cheese strategy I don't know of. I don't get why this fight is so hated, I suppose it can be annoying in 1cc's but from my experience the stage segments of Stage 4 and 5 throw sticks in the wheels far harder than this fight does. Gaia Elephant: Second midboss! Those purple slugs take a REALLY long time to kill on Lv.8, and that's very annoying because you have to really focus on the lasers, but if you don't kill the nearby slugs quickly enough, they'll do their weird burning thing and probably kill you. Also, this boss has a ton of HP on Lv.8, so have fun! Take out one side first, the swinging attack is really easy to dodge and destroying one side means twice less slugs. Since that also meansa lasers from only one side, you can take it easy with the dodging now. Also, a killed slug can give you a double heavy machinegun, which would be really helpful if there wasa any way to tell which one you can get it from rather than just slashing slugs until you eventually get it. Avatar of Evil: The scythe attack is consistent and fun to deal with. The orbs, though? It would have been nice to see at least some visual indicators. Say, make orbs change color as they're about to home in on you, or give the orb barrage ones a unique palette to be able to see which orbs you want to dodge before dodging the barrage. And on Lv.8, this guy has absurd amounts of HP and the orbs are quicker. Generally an unpleasant fight despite the really cool aesthetics. I still love this game. i do wish some things were different (make the cutscene after stage 1 skippable, make Stage 4 and 5 a bit more bearable and have Avatar of Evil be more consistent, in addition to making the slide disable-able), but aside from that, I think this is by far the best Metal Slug. I think the original is also nice but generally messier and has less fun bosses to fight.
