The latter two, themselves influenced by improvised music, have given rise to some outstanding productions, as attested to by the work of Carl Craig and Jeff Mills. Emma-Jean Thackray follows in the footsteps of these artists, with a particularly hypnotic approach to keyboards. This is especially evident on Yellow, a recent album full of turns and surprises. In this performance at the Jazz à La Villette festival in Paris, the British singer-songwriter and DJ attests to this open-minded spirit. Backed by a group of excellent musicians including Dougal Taylor on drums, Lyle Barton on keyboards and Crispin Robinson on congas, Thackray kicks things off with the impeccable “Say Something.” The artist’s voice is enhanced by a lively reverb and responds harmoniously to the ambient solos. The equally strong track “Spectre” is reminiscent of “There's a Ghost In My House,” the incredible northern soul classic immortalized by R. Dean Taylor in the late ’60s. Finally, the track “Our People” showcases Ben Kelly’s bass playing with its slogan-like refrain. It brings to mind, notably, the music of brass bands and the exploits of Theon Cross. - Vincent Caffiaux 🎥 Watch our well-curated playlists Full CONCERTS    • CONCERTS | Qwest TV   Analogue Sessions    • Analogue by Qwest TV   The GREATEST HITS    • ALL SONGS | Qwest TV   Legendary ARCHIVE GEMS    • ARCHIVES | Qwest TV   Captivating DOCUMENTARIES    • DOCUMENTARIES | Qwest TV   Follow Qwest TV Website: https://www.qwest.tv/ Instagram:   / qwest.tv   Facebook:   / qwesttv   Twitter:   / qwest_tv   Qwest TV is Quincy Jones' video streaming network celebrating Black Music & Global Sounds through premium documentaries, live concerts, archive gems and interviews showcasing the greatest musicians of all time!
