Recording Drums 101 - Tom mic comparison- Shure sm 57, Beta 57, 98, Sennheiser e604, AKG D112

This is a comparison, battle, mic shoot out of a Shure sm57, Shure Beta 57, Shure Beta 98, Sennheiser e604 and the AKG D112 microphone on a tom . This was recorded using no EQ, compression or any effects. All gain and volume was set the same. I used a limiter on the master channel just to make it louder. The drum was a DW collectors edition 12'' x 12'' tom with Champaign sparkle finish with a Remo coated Emperor head on the top and clear ambassador on the bottom. To record this I used the Tascam US 1800 audio interface with Cubase 8 music production software. The Beta 98 mic needs phantom power, I find it to be the best for studio use but its very fragile I have never gigged with it. The Sennheiser is my choice for live shows because its a clip on that eliminates a mic stand which is very appealing to me.
