Mamiya 645 Sekor C 45mm F2.8 is an friendly gateway lens to medium format. I find the design beautiful and timeless, I especially love the green color of the "45mm" on the lens. Although a medium format lens, it is quite compact in size and reasonable in weight, especially compared to modern lenses. This lens is stupendously charismatic when coupled with the world's smallest full frame camera, SIGMA FP. I simply love using this combination, and with Sigma's unique Teal & Orange color profile, photos look filmy, aged, and magnificent. In this video, I run two adapters (Fotodiox Pro and Sigma MC-21) to convert from Mamiya 645 to EF first, then EF to Leica L mount. This set up is only available for manual focus, there is no electronic communication. As of now, Kipon is the only manufacturer that offers an adapter converting form Mamiya 645 straight to Leica L; and this adapter is also a focal reducer, which costs $700. Running this double adapters set-up, it saves me almost 500 dollars! One mistake I learned using medium format lenses is confusing "focal length" and "crop factor." Focal length of 45mm is the same on medium format and full frame camera. Crop factor refers to the sensor size and how it affects "field of view." Another interesting discovery is the optics on a MF lens lets in so much light! Going from F4 to F2.8 feels so much brighter! You can get this lens for $150 on Ebay or KEH with excellent condition. And this lens may just impress you. I know I am! More to come regarding Mamiya lenses and Sigma FP. Stay Tuned! Affiliated Links. Video was shot on Panasonic GH5s and Sigma fp. 1.
