Johnny S black, the composer of this novel song, is a life worth reading. Johnny was born on 30 September, 1891, in St. Louis, Missouri, the only child of John L and Jeanie V. Black. Information that I scraped about on Google: At age seventeen, he performed with his father on the vaudeville stage usually playing a number of different types of musical instruments. In time he became a Broadway/vaudeville dance-hall violinist, singer master of ceremonies and songwriter, who is remembered for two songs he wrote that were huge hits:“Paper Doll” in 1915 and Dardanella” in 1919. Paper Doll, though, would not became a hit until six years following his death, when it was recorded by The Mills Brothers. An interesting tidbit was that in 1921 he was granted a US patent on a device he claimed would enable airplanes to land on top of skyscrapers. The Mills Brothers, sometimes billed the Four Mills Brothers, and originally known as the Four Kings of Harmony, were an American jazz and traditional pop vocal quartet who made more than 2,000 recordings that sold more than 50 million copies and garnered at least three dozen gold records. They were the first African-American artists to have their own show on national network radio (on CBS in 1930); they made appearances in film and were the first to have a #1 hit on the Billboard singles chart, with Paper Doll in 1943. They were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1998. You can enjoy their rendition at: • The Mills Brothers - Paper Doll
