2018 Cape Cod Canal Topwater!

Hey guys, the fish are back, and with them will come more content. This was a quick video of my first morning plugging session of the season, and definitely a great start. My next video will be a "what's in the box?" tackle discussion and I hope to share some different lures, rigging techniques, and tips and tricks that I've adopted over the years. Apologies for the spotty audio as well. I was using my Hero 5 Black to get some underwater shots of all the squid at my feet and apparently this can fill the audio ports with water causing the sound to cutout briefly. Thanks for watching guys! I always try to answer every question and respond to all comments so feel free to leave one! Gear: Rod: ODM Jigster 4-10, 11' built by CMS Tackle Reel: Shimano Stella 14k with 40lb Maxcuatro and 60lb Seaguar leader, Krok 220/310lb swivel, #125 TA clip Lure: Robert Davies Canal Dragon - When I say "modified" - an awesome plug and in my opinion you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better pencil when it comes to casting distance, and stability through the air. For the canal, however, I just prefer to have a little more of an “overbuilt” plug so I cut the stock thruwire, re-drill the plug to add more weight (2.7 oz to 4 oz), re-seal the inside with epoxy, remove the 150lb Rosco swivel and place a Krok #1 500Lb swivel in its place. I replace the stock hooks and rings with 6x VMCs (3/0 belly, 4/0 tail with barbs crushed) and the split rings are Wolverine's new "Stealth" black, Silver Zinc/Nickel w/Trivalent chromate series which essentially allows you to run their #5 135lb split ring size while achieving #6 200lb pull strength. I then coat the plug in 3-4 coats of 24 hour cure time epoxy. In my upcoming video I'll show some of the plugs I've made, as they cater specifically to canal fisherman. They're overbuilt, huge emphasis on terminal tackle, thru wire selection, double sinched, and locked tailwraps, and durable 3-4 coat epoxy sealed and coated finishes.
