BIEN Artist Talk: Halla Ármanns

Icelandic textile designer Halla Ármanns was a guest in the residence at the Center Rog from June 19 to 28, 2024. The talk was organised as a part of the O2OOP retrospective exhibition. Halla Ármanns: https://www.hallaarmanns.com/about Exhibition: https://layer.si/bien/en/kr/oloop-20-... Halla Ármanns is a knitwear designer and textile artist who graduated from the London College of Fashion in 2021. She currently lives in Iceland, where she actively contributes to the local design scene and showcases her work at events such as Design March, Handverk og Hönnun, and Knitfest in Blönduos. Her designs reflect her personal experiences, heritage, and environment, allowing her to communicate as a contemporary storyteller. Halla is rooted in the values and respect for craftsmanship, placing great emphasis on the tradition of hand knitting. She is known for using traditional techniques to create innovative and individual pieces. Halla was an associate of a Icelandic Textile Center collective, active in their residency program and in setting up their knitting machine Kniterate. She also used the machine as an artist creating in the Center. The Icelandic Textile Center in Blönduós, northwest Iceland, operates as a manufacturing, educational, and residential space in the field of textiles, textile art, and design. The Residency of Halla Armanns was made possible by the support of ACF Program (in Slovenia 2014-2021) and Center Rog Ljubljana (financially supported by Municipality of Ljubljana). No professional recorded this video; we used a mobile phone to record the image and sound. The presentation was made by Halla.
