New Ewes, New Pasture, Rotating Groups

It has been an extremely busy week. We traveled to western Minnesota to pick up newly purchased Ile de France ewes and a new breeding billy goat. We traveled over 1100 miles round trip in 2 days. All the animals arrived safely and are settling in well. On Tuesday of that week, we interseeded our existing hay field with additional grass seeds and 2 types of clover. This will be used as permanent pasture in the future. Likely we will be able to harvest some hay from it as the sheep will not be able to keep up with the early growth in the spring. We also sorted groups of sheep. We are selling the majority of our lambs, some wether goats and 3 cull ewes and 1 cull nanny so, there was a lot of sorting, shifting, and fence construction for all the separate groups. We are a week away from starting the breeding season so much of this was in preparation for that time. At the end of the day we took some time to enjoy a relaxing bonfire and listen to the tree frogs and the night birds.
