Loujain is a 30-year-old Saudi Arabian woman, an emblematic figure of peaceful activism for women's rights. She is particularly active on social networks, fighting to put an end to the repressive system of male guardianship. She also demands the right for women to drive. In 2014, she was arrested while filming herself at the wheel of a car trying to cross the border into the United Arab Emirates in protest. She was released after 73 days in prison. Arrested again in May 2018 for defying the driving ban, she has been in prison since then. From her cell, Loujain reported being tortured and sexually assaulted. After an unfair trial in March 2019, without a lawyer or any clear charges made against her, Loujain remained in prison. And yet, since June 2018 women have been allowed to drive in her country. In August 2019, the Saudi prosecutor's office offered her to release her in exchange for a false account of the conditions of her imprisonment, but she refused. Loujain has been placed in total isolation since April 2019.
